Run chiefly by volunteers, AONT undertakes many different activities throughout the year to raise the profile of arthritis and osteoporosis, as well as improve the support and understanding of these conditions by not only sufferers but the general public and health professionals alike.
Some of our work throughout 2011 includes:
- producing and delivering over 550 copies of our quarterly publication, joiNTed, in March, June, September and December
- providing ongoing telephone advisory service (Monday to Thursday)
- sending out hundreds of personalized information packs in response to enquiries
- responding to walk in enquiries
- delivering over 80 Osteoporosis Resource Packs to GPs Territory-wide
- hosting two Challenging Pain self-management courses for consumers (February and September) and one Healthwise (Chronic Disease Self Management) Course in March/April
- promoting Arthritis Awareness Week at three shopping centres (Nightcliff, Palmerston and Alice Springs
- promoting Arthritis & Osteoporosis NT at the Katherine Community Expo, Veteran’s Health Day and Dripstone Middle School
- featuring numerous times in the NT News and the Centralian Advocate
- delivering bulk materials to both the private and public hospitals in Darwin as well as to other local Health departments
- featuring on the Consumer Health Forum website, BCL website and alicespringsnews.com.au
- presenting nearly twenty community speaking engagements in Darwin and Palmerston
- promoting the Australian Pain Society “Practical Ways of Managing Your Pain” Consumer Forum which was attended by over 55 delegates
- publishing material in The Chronicle (Chronic Disease Network)
