Arthritis is the general name for diseases of joints, thought to be caused by inflammation. It can affect anyone at anytime: friends, family, colleagues and carers. The most common forms of arthritis include osteoarthris, rheumatoid arthritis and gout. One in every five men, women and children in Australia will be affected by arthritis. Sixty percent of people with arthritis are under 65. Four children in every 1,000 have juvenile arthritis, some as young as six months.Osteoporosis is a condition where the bones become fragile and brittle, and can fracture more easily than normal bones. Even minor falls can cause serious fractures: 1 in 2 women and 1 in 3 men over 60 will have a fracture due to osteoporosis.
